Presenter Profile: Pete Dawson

Pete Dawson

Pete is a familiar face at festivals across Australia and has followed the evolution of Australian music festivals and Australian music artists for over three decades. He has witnessed countless festivals and interviewed a large cross section of Australian musicians. ~ ~ ~ "In 1973 I began working with musicians, organising the hippie Sunstone Shows in Adelaide, providing a much needed venue for the alternative bands on the scene which did not fit the pub scene requirements for commercial and cover bands. Over the subsequent decades I went on to manage or assist the formation and development of several acts including guitar wizard Chris Finnen, fusion group Indian Pacific, world music guru Dya Singh, indigenous reggae rockers Wild Water and Pacific Islander percussion outfit Drum Drum. I have promoted concerts, fairs, festivals, markets and tours; conducted PR campaigns and acted as consultant to up & coming musicians on industry issues. Although I have dabbled in the mainstream commercial side of music, I prefer to work in the community promoting music as a celebration of life and bringing people together. Since 1992 I have promoted & publicised contemporary Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander musicians through festivals, radio programs & magazine articles." ~ ~ ~ Pete writes for the national monthly music magazine Trad&now and publishes online... .........................................................................................................................................................................
