How does MainFM promote peace?
Today is UNESCO World Radio Day #WorldRadioDay #worldradioday2023
The theme is Radio & Peace, and MainFM is a part of it.
Listen in across today’s programming and you’ll hear a few of us incorporating the theme into our shows.

How does this relate to you?

Today’s a good day to think about what it means to be part of INDEPENDENT RADIO – radio that isn’t told what to because it’s not paid for by corporations’ money. Instead, we stay afloat on the strength of the listeners and businesses and other related organisations around us who provide financial support because they want to. Something we do inspires them.
You’re a part of an ‘orchestra’ (watch this…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbJcQYVtZMo)
You contribute to sharing sounds and ideas that reflect us to back to ourselves.
What does this do?
It consoles us.
It reminds us we’re not alone – a part, not apart.
It allows us to talk to and hear our tribes, which is especially important and valuable to those who are otherwise underrepresented.
It informs, and being informed provides choice and increases our ability to make better decisions for ourselves.
It therefore promotes freedom.
It entertains and stimulates, providing colour when there sometimes isn’t any.
It tempers and grounds discourse in a media environment that is otherwise inflammatory, divisive and sensational.
It erodes walls between us.
It gathers, invites and welcomes.
Today, think about the fact that your investments in MainFM and community radio are extremely meaningful. It’s a compassionate, human focused endeavour.
If you’re anything like me, when the power went out during the floods, I felt really sad not to hear us on 94.9. When next you switch us on, in your cars, your worksites or wherever you are, ask yourself:
What are the ways MainFM provides peace?
