I joined Main FM just over one year ago after seeing an ad on social media. I have a record collection that requires further justification to continue to build it and I wanted to be able to support the local venues who were putting acts on in Castlemaine.
I’ve been a musician since my teen years, so much of my time is spent on that. I also go to as many shows as I can. Music is my main hobby / passion.
My show is “To Bring You My Love”, title taken from the PJ Harvey song of the same name. The three tenants are, to one; play records that I love, two; have friends on air to play music thay love and three; have artists playing locally on to talk about the music that they have made with love. Basically, there’s a whole lotta love and music! The show is a year old. I do this show, as I said, to justify the ongoing building of the record collection and to support local venues.
I’ve been a little self pleased that I haven’t been too star struck by some of the people I’ve been able to interview (Mick Harvey for example). As far as the community goes, it’s diverse and the station does a great job at giving voice to that diversity.
I love Live Rats, the turn of phrase the ability to wax lyrical of a myriad of subjects and its ability to make me laugh. The spoken work on Down the Rabbit Hole is as funny as it is profound.
To me, ‘community radio’ means radio from and for the local community.
A stand out memory for me is the last Community Cup; huge crowd, lotsa love, lotsa fun!
I run a Facebook and Instagram page and do a weekly update on what’s coming up. Occasionally I remember to post if I’m at a local gig.
Keep up the great work!
