Leaving Monitors on, and Why

Howdy,

Recently, a diligent and no doubt power conscious person has been switching off our computer monitors at the station.

I can understand why this is a good idea. On one hand, it may prolong the life of the monitors, and it would also save some power.

In this case, however, the other hand needs to trump the former.

With so many people using and relying on our computers, you can be sure a good few aren’t particularly confident users of technology. Pre-show, a nervous presenter may panic at seeing all the computer so incredibly OFF-looking, and though the solution seems obvious to some, you can also be sure it’s not obvious to all.

In this context, we’d appreciate everyone leaving our computer monitors on, please.

What do I do if the screens are off?

Typically, on the underside edge of each screen, to the right, there is a power button. Find it and press it. You should see a small green light appear near the button, and, all going well, the screen should wake up.

Thanks heaps everyone.

Alex
