Getting in touch about the new Sugar Fed Leopards album ‘Love. Be In It’ – dedicated to the audiences, venues and industry that have joined them in their love quest and also to the spirit of friendship, shared energy, music and nightlife. After 10 years of music making together – they still love each other!
‘Love. Be in it’ is a command, a direct reference to the Life Be In It, government fitness campaign from the 80s and inspires people to get lovefit through real connection and being moved by music. The reference also makes its way into the music with a healthy dose of 80s sounds and feels throughout, whilst still retaining the scraggly rock n’ roll of the bands’ live shows.
The album is out on Friday 19th April, To organise an interview contact Elle Young elle@midnightsnack.biz
Being in a band is an act of love, a love for music, for each other, for expression itself and is played on the magical strings of connection around platonic, romantic and familial feeling. It’s also a business. Add to this the vulnerability around sharing creative ideas and you’ve got something a lot like love itself, something fragile, powerful and flammable. The Sugar Fed Leopards have made it to 10 years making music together – and guess what? They still love each other! It’s a rare occurrence and something to be celebrated so they dedicate their latest album ‘Love. Be in it’ to the audiences, venues and industry that have joined them in their love quest and also to the spirit of friendship, shared energy, music and nightlife. Could there be any better reason to make an album?
Ultimately, ‘Love. Be in it’ is an invitation, urging everyone to find the mood, get into it, get off the couch, come to the show and be in the music. It is also a command, a direct reference to the Life Be In It, government fitness campaign from the 80s and inspires people to get lovefit through real connection and being moved by music. The reference also makes its way into the music with a healthy dose of 80s sounds and feels throughout. The love story starts right from the first track ‘T.Y.O.T. (Take You Out Tonight)’, dedicated to loose nights with your best friends. The steamy nights on the dance floor with ‘Old Hand’, the absurd fun of ‘Warm Toddy’, the shared ‘Beach Dreams’ and the chugging Bee Gee-esque disco infused ‘Need You Now’ have all come together into a slick record while still retaining the scraggly rock n roll of the bands’ live shows. Nick Herrera, Lachlan Carrick and Paul Maybury were brought in on mixing duties to make the album their most polished piece of work yet.
The Sugar Fed Leopards have taken 11 years to make this album and their story is as much a tale of romance with each other and music as an ode to Love as a verb and a way of living, with music as the connecting thread. Through music each band member has found companions, jobs, friends and good times. Lead singer Steph reflects, “Our gigs are cathartic and we are proud to have been going through a chunk of life together with our audience and with each other. Personally I can’t wait for the next 60 years. The album reflects that hope.”
‘Love. Be In It’ is released on Friday 19th April and performed live at Rocksteady Records, CBD for Record Store Day 2024, and at The Night Cat on Friday 17th May.
