For the Record with Melissa Scott

I really can’t remember when I first joined Mainfm but it was at least 8 years ago (actually probably longer). I joined Mainfm to have a radio show with my old friend Matthew. We had a show called Hello Darling initially for an hour that grew into two. Each week we would play a variety of music and just chat.

Before joining Mainfm I was working at La Trobe University. I have always had a great love of music and it is a constant theme in my life. I can’t not listen to music!

I currently have one show called Crash Landing which is on Mondays at 5-7 pm. I also co host Girls on Air with Version on Mondays 4-5 pm. Girls on Air is three years old and Crash Landing is probably only a year old.

Being at Mainfm reinforces the importance of community and what an important role community radio has within this area. Mainfm is part of the wider community and it feels great. Mainfm has taught to go with the flow more and to be a good listener. When interviewing people it is so important to make them feel listened to and engage them in normal conversation.

There are so many great shows on Mainfm and they all sound so professional and the way the presenters talk about the artists and their music is great.

Community radio means being part of the wider community. We all share the fact that we live in and around Castlemaine. That is what brings us together. I love the diversity of programming on Mainfm and it is one of its strong attributes.

Ohhh stand out/memorable moment – I get nervous interviewing musicians/celebrities so I have decided to treat them just like anyone else – they are just people after all. I loved talking to an author about her dating book and the funny encounters she had.

I use facebook to promote the show, usually on the day of the show I post what Girls on Air are doing or what music Crash Landing will play. I find the results varied. I also post the shows to mixcloud and then upload to the facebook pages.

I think the Mainfm team are great. Well done everyone. Your shows reflect the energy and passion that you all have and that is what makes us unique and wonderful. Keep it up.
