A couple of friends had shows on MainFM and they’d told me what a welcoming and supportive little station it is! Music is central to my life and I’d done occasional DJing at community events, so the idea of a radio show really appealed. What continues to inspire me is the MainFM community and culture; and , of course, discovering new (to me) music.
I’m a wage-slave when I’m on not air ;)! Outside of that, occasional community DJ gigs.
My show is called Feijoada; ‘a delicious stew of Brazilian, Latin, African, Middle Eastern and jazz tunes’; all up the show has been going around 3-4 years (but with a 2-year break!); love of the music, and the impetus to keep exploring, keep digging.
Something I’ve learned about myself: I’ve learned to accept I’ll always be a bit of a klutz with technology! About community: you never know when you might suddenly receive delightful, affirming feedback.
I admire Pete Dawson and his show In Didj’n’Us. Pete’s passion, commitment and knowledge is inspiring and uplifting – he communicates from the heart. He’s also a wonderfully lovely bloke.
I think ‘Community Radio’ is radio that welcomes, includes and offers something for everyone.
A stand-out moment was having a live band in the studio! I’d like to do that again…
I have a Facebook page. Tbh I don’t utilise it much, and I’m not sure what ‘results’ I would be looking for even if I did. I occasionally post on ‘Friends of Main FM’.
