For the Record with Ann Bolton

Show: Jazz Life, Mondays 7-8pm

Eight years ago Ken Turnbull and I got together through a mutual love of jazz, and thought it would be a lot of fun to have a jazz show, so we approached MainFM. And they said yes! The rest is a rich history of thousands of great tracks, conversations about jazz, and a rewarding experience.

I was retired. I had been a second hand bookseller for many years in Daylesford and before that I had a career in television production in Sydney.

Our show is Jazz Life. It’s coming up for 8 years. It’s an hour of jazz from the 1950s to today, with chat about the artists and the music. Our love for the music is our motivation.

I would never have thought I could do it! I’ve learned that’s not so, and that there is interest in the community for the music we present.

I love Ed and Reuben’s show Jump Out Jamaica. It’s so interesting, and the music is fabulous. It’s obvious they love it too.

The radio plays a vital part in entertaining and informing the community.

A stand out memorable moment is the feeling that we’d done it, created a show we were proud of.

We just use Facebook each week, with photos of the artists and some info of the tracks in the upcoming show. We share this to the artists and interested groups. Not sure of the results.

My parting message is to let people know if you enjoy their shows – positive feedback is so good for the soul.
