Two of Australia’s seminal 90’s acts High Pass Filter and Machine Translations join forces to mix their eclectic sounds for a couple of special double headline shows to launch their respective double vinyl releases. In 2023 High Pass Filter and La Sape Records released ‘Nice Co-ordinated Outfit’ – a double album including studio recordings, a handful of live performances, remixes and edits. Machine Translations’ re-release of their classic 2007 ‘Seven Seven’ album on Half A Cow Records features a side and a half of previously unreleased bonus material and reframes their sonic pop, folk and soundscape adventures on a wider canvas. Heading into summer both bands felt the time was right to team up and launch their records with some special shows.

High Pass Filter were the kings of the Fitzroy underground. Dark, weird improvisers who aimed for something new each performance. Whilst electric guitars and rock n roll dominated Australian airwaves and stages, High Pass Filter were pioneering a sonic revolution in the shadows. The band’s indefinable sound saw them sharing lineups with artists from hardcore and punk luminaries like Fugazi and The Boredoms to dub heavyweights such as Lee Scratch Perry and The Mad Professor. Machine Translations started off as a bunch of Greg J. Walker’s 4-track home recordings and gradually grew into a band that fearlessly explored the far corners of indie pop, folk and electronica while maintaining a strong singer-songwriter core. Over 9 albums and an extensive live CV including shows with Bonnie Prince BillyP.J. HarveyCat PowerSteven Malkmus and countless others, Machine Translations continued to blur genre boundaries and explore new musical terrain.

Catch both acts together to celebrate their retrospective double LP releases over three shows in Victoria.
