In Maloya and Sega music from Reunion Island and surrounds. Maloya is a 300-year-old performance tradition drawing from
Malagasy, African and Tamil cultures, originating from Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean. Lead singer, dancer Muriel Hillion Toulcanon is familiar to Castlemaine audiences,
having presented the Maloya Moshpit at the 2023 Castlemaine Festival in collaboration With Punctum Inc. This time she brings her talented group of
Creole musicians from Perth to Victoria for the first time to perform 2 very special shows, one in Melbourne
And one in Castlemaine. Primary students from region will also experience a special workshop on the Thursday where they will
Learn about the special French language, culture, music and dance from Reunion Island. These activities are proudly supported by Mt Alexander
Shire and The West Australian Government .
